Well: Yes, it is possible to do that. However, because ME and XP are entirely different, it is very recommendable that you format the hard drive and do a clean install.
But if you want to install it over ME, make sure the PC is clean of virusus, spyware and that stuff, then you shouldn't get problems. RJ

Good recommendations from RJ. A couple other things to consider in the performance arena. ME typically came with 128Mb of memory on most prebuilt machines. That's not nearly enough to run XP. You should consider a memory upgrade too. 512Mb is the sweet spot for XP. Couple of other issues you may face: your memory might be PC133 which has become quite expensive. About $150 US for 2 x 256. Just want to point these issues out to you now so you can evaluate the entire system for your upgrade.

Another point to consider, many programs that run under ME won't do so or will have to be reinstalled when you load XP.
Read this first and save yourself grief before you upgrade http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316639

You need drivers for Windows XP. Go to the websites of the maker of your sound card (and modem) and download XP compatible drivers.
