Hey , somehow my computer refused to boot up last night and hang just before winxp boot so i can't even get into the winxp boot menu ( safe mode.. etc .. ) .. i don't really care about réinstall winxp but all i want is to save two or 3 folder before formating it...
i have two HD one for the OS and the other for datas. All i want to know is if there is a tool somewhere to allow me to boot up and see all the directories and copy what i want over my second drive without taking out physicaly the drive into another computer ?

I'd just do a repair (boot from XP CD, as if you want to install Windows, and when you're asked if you want to repair, answer yes), then save the folders, and then do a clean install.

Already know about the repair mode .. but i want something quicker than waiting for two installations ( repair + clean install ).
I also i have experienced in the past that even a succesful repair winxp will remains buggy and/or will not help at all the same errors will occurs. Attempting a repair it's only a guess .... and i dont have time for this |

If you have another working computer, take the hard drive with your data out of the problem computer and install it in the other computer. As long as the other computer is WinNT and up, it will be able to read the data on the hard drive from the problem computer and you'll be able to move the folders to someplace safe or burn them to a CD-R. If the other computer only has a Win9x OS, then this won't work.

Well, if you don't want to repair, then do a full installation of XP over itself. I don't know of anything quicker, but by the time you've found something else you'd have completed the two installs, so if you don't have time, then I'd do the two installs rather than waiting. Your PC will be up and running quicker. RJ |
