No direct 3d installed in XP Pro

I just discovered that Direct 3d was not installed in a XP Pro sp1 install w/DX9 either before or after the video drivers (ATI Radeon) were installed.
Aren't the direct 3d drivers installed along with the DX9 package?
I normally don't use XP, but doing so now to troubleshoot another unrelated issue on the same system. The former 2k install all was fine.
Never encounterned this before.

DX Diag confirms this, the test boxes are greyed out.

That's odd. Windows XP SP1 comes with DirectX 9 I believe, and DirectDraw has been part of DirectX since the beginning.

DirectX is also available for download (and the newest version is 9.0c, your XP SP1 doesn't include that version). Download and install it, that'll install DirectDraw, too.
I have no idea why it got missing, though.

It's available either as websetup or full download.

Slight correction, it was the direct 3d drivers that weren't installed.
I checked the display tab and 4 out of the 5 boxes are greyed out. Only the 'Test DirectDraw' is active.
Never paided much attention to this before since never had a issue here. I normally use 2k. I checked it withy my Laptop where I HAD to use XP and all 5 boxes show ok.

I reinstalled dx9 again and those boxes have appeared. I guess something got corrupted. I was using image files from True Image so as I could go back to different stages of the install, again I'm troubleshooting another problem.

I will look at this closer.
