WIN 98SE shutsdown then restarts repeatedly

We have a Windows 98SE pc on our network and today when we shutdown the computer it shutdown but then restarted in a continuous loop. In the end I pressed the off switch! I am concerned that it might be a virus but we have symantec antivirus installed which is up to date.

Any ideas on the solution please?

Do you have all bios wake events disabled? This almost sounds like wake on lan is enabled.

bios - LAN wake up

Thanks - it was that. I forgot our IT regional manager had run msconfig a few days ago - selective start up i think. Now all sorted!!
