Hit the windows key+pause/break

The SP information will be listed there.

try holding down the windows logo key and pause/break key. should bring up the computer properties dialog that mentions system and registration details.

You can tell during bootup too - the splash screen with SP2 just says Windows XP, without the Home or Professional.

I don't know if all versions are this way or not, but when I upgraded my brother's computer to XP, I noticed on the bootup splash screen that the progress bar went from being green to being blue. SP1 it was green, SP2 it became blue.

Last but not least : Contorl Panel>System> System Properties General.
And the window will show SP2 right under what version of the OS you're running.

With MS there is usually 4 ways to do the same thing, it's all a matter of personal preference, but one other way to find system info is: start > run and type msinfo32
