Flash Drive woes
Ok heres the scenario, wife's old work PC (amd K2-6 350Mhz) running Win98se i built out of bits years ago, construction work going on at wife work PC got covered in dust. Stared having problems with PC displaying garbage on startup. All the time the flash drive had been working ok. Brought PC home dis-assembled and cleaned out whole case etc. Rebuilt and reloaded WinME, could not locate my 98 disc, everything working at our home including flash pen showing up in explorer as usbpro drive. Took it back to her work installed usb printer, test print ok, connected flash drive and on looking in explorer i suddenly get three floppy drive icons and a message telling me floppy drive E; needs formatting. i played around with it for an hour or so but no joy, can anyone throw some light on this problem.

Try to find your 98 disk. ME can be a real pain when it screws up.

[. . . something to try while you look for your Win98se disk
. . . ]The three floppy drive icons are: 1) your actual floppy drive 2) your flash drive, and 3) a device on the usb printer = likely a memory card reader so that you can print pictures from a digital camera by inserting their memory card in to be read. Try removing any cards (or floppies) from any of the readers, & see if that helps. If it doesn't, try a memory card *that you've Already Saved* the information from, and let it try formatting it. You can also probably safely ignore the "needs to be formatted" message. Best of luck . . . Gary [& Hi there, glc - I've been so busy I don't know what forum I'm in lately] |

Hi Guys
GLC - yes your right ME is a pain and would not normally be my first choice. Gary - the usb printer is just a small epson inkjet with no card reader, all my wife does is print off all the templates i created for her. I am at a loss as to why it worked perfectly at our home and yet after a 3 mile drive to her work it does not. tried my own flash drive usb 2.0 and it worked fine with no additional floppy drive icons!! my wife's pen drive is usb1.1. Both drives work perfectly with my XP system at home. I'll have to have a search round for the 98 disc. thanks for the replies Doug |
