Can't Read CD-ROM

Had a pgm failure that caused XP to crash. XP rebooted (it scanned HD for errors) then completed successfully. HD's ( have 2) both work , pgms run and Internet 'internets', but CD-Roms (have 2) and Floppy don't read. Device Mgr says they're OK. Uninstalled CD and Floppy drivers & let XP reinstall (said it was successful) but still NO JOY reading.

Suggestion??

Just wondering. Does the BIOS detect that CD drive? When you first bootup and the computer goes through a self check, does the computer list the detected drives on the monitor screen? If so, does it list the CD drive? What brand and model is your CD_Roms'?

Have a DELL 4300 ... the BIOS has never listed HD's or CD's at boot BEFORE - and still doesn't, but XP Device Manager and My Computer bopth recognize the CD's.

CD drives are: Hitachi LG CRD-8482B and
Lite-On 16102B

Did a restore and driver uninstall/reinstall and thought solved. But CD can only be read (for both drives) if it is IN the drive at boot time. If I insert it after boot, system either says CD is corrupt or blank.

Also, cannot burn.

Suspect registry prob - has anyone heard of something lie this?

I having the same problem. Did you ever determine a fix?

Update: Check out the following Norton site for 3-4 fixes...my problem was related to the In CD software. Removed and all is fine!
