An Acer Aspire 5200SR
This is an OLD machine, originally came with Win 95. This belongs to one of my students, but he lost his system restore disk. He has the Win 95 product key, though. So all we need is the restore disk....Anyone have one laying' around collecting dust? |

Thanks, but I have floppies out the ying-yang
What I need is the system restore CD. I have Windows loaded, but I have been unable to locate drivers for such an ancient system. I was hoping someone would have the restore disk laying around and would be willing to part with it, cheap

to do that would not be leagle as the restore cd's are licenessed for that one maching and is not transferable to another, as far as I know. and it probly would not even work unless the hardware was exactly the same.

My student has his Cert. of Auth. for 98SE with an OEM #. Back then the licensing wasn't quite as strict as it is today. As long as one held a valid OEM#, Win 98 was Win 98. I already have 98SE on it, using his OEM #, basically, I just need the drivers for the machine. I gave him the # to call for Acer, though I doubt they will be of much help for a system this old. Trying here was really a last resort.

Let's play detective. Open device manager and list the flagged devices. Then open up the thing and start reading cards and chips.

I'll have to have him bring it back into the classroom
sent it home with him at the end of the day.We had already tried quite a few different drivers for things, the biggest problem is that with the exception of the nic, it's all on-board and apparently proprietary. The chipset on the mobo just had some obscure numbers that even Google couldn't find anything of relavence on. So, without the proper chipset drivers, none of the other devices will be seen correctly and load drivers. However, two heads are better than one, I'll have him bring it back in and we'll make a list of devices/chipset numbers and post them here.
