Windows.000
In reformatting and installing a full version Win98SE on an older PII 400 HP, for some reason when installing the OS, instead of using the C:\Windows folder to install, it created C:\Windows.000 folder and installed there. The C:\Windows folder is there along with SYSTEM folder but they are empty. I figure there is a way to rename in DOS to a more conventional file structure, but DOS has never been a very strong suit for me. Any detailed help to get this puppy to appear a little more conventional would be appreciated.

For what ever reason, the install saw a Windows folder and created the dot 000 folder. During the install, it should have mentioned this and given you the chance to over write the windows folder. There are thousand of registry entry that point to the dot 000 folder. I'd just leave it as is....

Here's Hal's sticky on how to change files IF you did an over the top and forgot to rename the file. If yours was a reformat, I don't think this would apply. But then again, if it was a reformat you shouldn't be seeing a .000 file.
