Ok, I got this laptop from a guy with a broken USB port. His son jammed something into the port and broke the pins. I checked the pins and The top one is not usable, however the bottom one is. The pins are not touching anything, so it is not shorting out.
The problem is that when using Windows XP Pro on the internet, the system freezes up. We don't use the USB ports and I have re-installed windows twice. As you can see, it is a Dell Inspiron 8500. It doesn't freeze up at all when you are not online, it only does it when you go on the internet. Anyone out there with some help? It is a nice laptop, worth putting $600.00 into a new motherboard, bu I was wondering if someone had a fix if it is not a hardware issue. I thought that I would explore the software side first. Thanks in advance. |

The reason why internet is slow/freezing is because of the broken USB port. You'll need to find someone that can take it apart and either glue that connector together, or replace it. There is no software to correct your problem.
