XP won't power off my computer

I have XP SP2 and when I go to shut it down, it goes thru the motions and then gets the the last screen; "Windows is Shutting Down", and just stays there. I have to manually shut it off by holding in the power button about 10 seconds and it clicks off. It used to shut off by it self but now it only works right if I shut it down right after I boot up, without doing anything else. If I use the computer for a while then go to shut down it does this and just sits there. The keyboard is off and the pointer doesn't move but the mouse is lit up. Shows no errors in the event log. Anyone have any ideas????

Check the power off setting in bios.

Can't remember what the last thing I did when it started but it was around the last windows update. Noticed it doing this about the 25th of feb and the update was the 22nd. I used my Go Back and went back before the 22nd and it still did it. then the update was reinstalled so I shut off auto update and uninstalled the update. But still plagued with this problem (more of an agrivation than anything). Funny thing, a friend of mine called me and he started having the same problem about the same time. That was strange. I checked the bios but will double check it again. I checked my power options from the control panel but don't see anything about power off there.

btw, its XP Pro SP2, if that makes any difference.

I'd remove GoBack and see what happens. GoBack can be incompatible with a lot of things, and it's not really necessary with XP, system restore does a good enough job.

Well, everything I try doesn't seen to help. Haven't been spending "all" my free time with it, just whenever I feel like I want some agrivation. So I finally disabled the GoBack and restarted the system restore. Thats about the only thing I haven't tried, yet. I didn't uninstall it, just disabled it. Will use the computer for a while and see what happens. If problem is still there, I'll uninstall it but looks like the GoBack has totaly stopped running/loading etc., so should be ok without uninstalling it. This power-down thing isn't really a big deal, just have to manually turn it off when shutting down and off and on when restarting, but just annoying and want to find what's causing it.
