Need XP Help

I have posted about a couple problems before and now I am going to list everything I have done and what the problem is.

My friend has a Gateway desktop with Windows XP Home. A few months ago, they installed sp2 and it screwed it up. They took it to geek squad, they go sp2 off but did not know what else to do. So they ask me to try to help. I have run adaware, MS Spyware remover, & norton av. in safe mode and in normal. Windows XP is slow when it finishes after the progress bar and gets to the sn's. The internet also seems to run slow. I have looked at msconfig, disabled stuff and it still not works. I have updated it with the exception of sp2. Windows media player does not work. I want to use wiping the drive as a last resort. Is there anything I could do? HD is fine. Used 2 diff. testers for that.

Just what is the exact problem that your friend is having? Are they receiving error messages, BSOD, etc.? Give exact details to what the problem is and give the computer spec. (e.g. mobo name/model ,cpu, ram, drives, etc.). We can help you better with more info.

Have a read of this thread and run a highjack this on the machine, slow computer, internet problems and SP2 problems are all indicative of virus, trojan or malware problems. I know you have scanned the machine but my guess is that something has been missed.
SP2 must be installed on a squeaky clean machine or it can cause all sorts of problems.
