windows not opening

I am trying to work on a friend's computer. I am trying to install Norton Antivirus 2005 but when I click on the install window, it disappears. I found on symantec a solution to open regedit but when that window opens, it stays open perhaps a second, then it disappears. Also happens when I do Ctrl-alt-del to see what is running. it opens for about a second then disappears. I can't get into the bios to set it up to boot from the cd because it has a password. HELP!

ok. I took the hardrive out of the computer and put it in a hardrive usb enclosure and hooked it to my puter and ran norton anti-virus. got 3 off of it. then ran trend micro-cillin and removed another. I hooked it back up into the friends computer and now it only gives long beeps when I try to boot it up. Everything is hooked up correctly, it will even long beep without the keyboard or mouse hooked up, so no keys are sticking. HELP!!!

great! it does not show anything on the screen, so it must be the video card. so can I just insert a new video card and go from there?

You may just have to reseat the video card. While you are in there, check all cards and connections for security. Unplug the power when you do this.
