Help with back-up utility

I recently partitioned my HD using Partition Magic 8.0 and used XP's back up utility to back up the partitions. My system crashed and I had to restore my C drive. When I restored using the same utility my drive letters were changed and I could not use any of the programs because they were connected to the old drive letters. I forgot to back up the "system state" when I performed the back up.

Was it PM 8.0 or XP's back-up utility?

I am sorry if this is the wrong forum, I didn't know which one to put it in. Administrators-if this is the wrong forum please post in the correct one.

Thank you.

This is a long shot, but worth a try. If you can still boot into XP OK, the go to the control panel>select "Disk Management"...from there you can re-asign partition letters (hover your mouse over the drive you want to change, right click)...you will have to reboot for changes to take effect.

Something simmilar happened to me one time when I was installing windows, & deleted a partition (supposedly to create another partition for the OS)...only to find out later that my drive letters were re-asigned. I was beyond repair, and ended up formatting, setup the partitions afresh, & re-installing everything.

You can use disk management to change the letter of any partition EXCEPT the active OS partition. The active partition CAN be changed - check out this page:
