Save My Computer!
First off, before I tell me problem, I want to let you guys know I DO NOT WANT TO REFORMAT! I need to know if there's a solution to my problem that would not be formatting my HD, I have about 120gb of stuff that would take too much time to back up. Now, back to my problem... I was playing an online video game, and my internet suddenly disconnected. This is an all to common thing with my computer, and it usually just reconnects in a second or two. This time, there was no reconnect... So I restarted my computer, when I got back on, every icon on my desktop had turned into the find file icon. I then did some more looking and noticed that EVERY SHORTCUT on my computer had turned into the find file icon. I also came to notice that I couldn't open exe files by double clicking them, I had to make a shortcut, go through the find file thing (the little box comes up that says i can search on internet for appropriate program or search myself) and open it that way. I also noticed that I couldn't open internet explorer or many of the system tools in the control panel. Here's what I've done so far to try to fix it...
1. Numerous virus scans, all viruses removed and/or cleaned. 2. 2 system restores 3. Disk Defrag 4. CHKDSK 5. Adware/spyware scans, all removed 6. My last resort, a windows repair None of the above fixed it, I'm running out of ideas, please help me... Remember, I'm trying to avoid reformatting... Thanks |

What are the complete system specs of this computer?
How do you get on-line? Dialup or broadband? Have you run the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility yet? Cricket
