XP wont install properly after re-boot

Hi guys

I recently formatted my hard drive.

I have since tried to re-install XP without any success. The install begins by saying something like 'Windows is inspectng your hardware configuration'. It then goes on to install various sytem files (.dll's etc).

Finally it installs all of these and says it is re-booting.

This is where the problem is. Rather that it re-booting and continuing the install (with a new Windows screen which shows the progress of the install ie 40 mins remaining). It simply reboots and starts the 'Windows is inspectng your hardware configuration' again and starts loading up all the same files again.

I am not sure what this is about, The XP disk is fine (I have used it before). I am unsure if my BIOS is set incorrectly but I have it set to boot from CD then HDD.

It seems to me the install just cant read the files that the first part of the process is trying to install.

I have tried everything. Somebody has suggested I pull out all the ram, modem etc but I cant see how that would help.

If anybody has seen something like this before and can offer help, it would be greatly appreciated

The WindowsXP cd when loading first says to boot from cd hit any key, if you hit a key you will go through that process again. When it reboots dont hit any keys and it will go through its install process. It is also possible that you may have a key sticking you might check that too.

Send a message via MSN to macko72
First part of winXP .dll and all that you see at begining loads in RAM but after that you should get message "end -user agement" press F8 accept etc. then message searching for previous versions of MS windows and then whre to instal to format to choose partition etc then windows copies files on your HDD and you have first reboot.
My point is well something is wrong with RAM, or HDD or cables connecting HDD or CD what ever you got.
Javi sta ima!!

Make sure that you have the antivirus disabled in the BIOS, if yours has that option. This would prevent writing to the boot sector.

If this is not the case, when it does the first reboot, enter the bios settings and change the boot order back to hard drive before CD, see if that takes care of it.
