booting to 98 get error

when booting to 98 get error message


ERROR: HIMEM.SYS has detected unreliable XMS memory at address 04000002 xms driver not installed.

Usually, this error means what it says: either the memory module is damaged or the memory slot on the motherboard is damaged.

If there is only one module currently in the system, try to find a suitable replacement. If there are two, remove one & try again (then it no luck, try the other).

You can test the modules with a module testing program such as MemTest86 [available in a free-for-personal-use version at http://www.memtest.org ]

If you are uncertain which modules work with the motherboard, try a Google search online to find a manual for it. Or if this is a major-brand computer, you can look at crucial.com by using it's memory finder (it's on the homepage, start by entering the major-brand in the box "select a manufacturer").
