So Slow, need more speed

Hiya guys, long time no see

Got a bit of a prob (well it is to me anyways) and need some help from those of you who are clued up on the XP home side of things.

Recently bought a Packard Bell EasyNote laptop which has a P4 3.06 processor and 512MB ram but the thing is about 10x slower than my old Sony which had an XP1400M, BIOS reports CPU speed as 3066MHz so i dont think theats wrong so i'm guessing the speed prob is software related.

Running XP home edition with very few things started on startup only Norton Internet Security and the SIS graphics card control panel, nothing seems to be eating up system resources as my CPU usage when running normally is around 2% with approx 250MB of ram used.

Would running Sisoft Sandra tell me more about where the damn thing is botlenecking if indeed the problem is hardware related or is there some other trick i can try in WinXPH to tell me more?

Might want to compare the two hard drives. 4200 rpm performs much slower than a 5400. Might be something as simple as that.
