Xp Procduct Activation

I read the thread regarding xp activation, pc mech news, on feb 23,05. Stating you can no longer activate via internet. I have a couple of xp oem disc. Does this mean my disc is no longer any good? Can the procduct key be phoned in? I want to install on new comp.

According to the article I read,Microsoft was requiring this for computers bought from the 20 big computer makers. It didn't say whether or not that individual OEM discs(like from Newegg) could use the internet.

The only thing mentioned in that article was that " Internet activation, by way of the Certificate Of Authenticity (the sticker on the side of a Computer when bought from an OEM such as Dell, Gateway, and so on) would no longer be allowed because of the possibility of someone using that "COA" for their own use. Meaning that it could be stolen from "that" system before it is sold (pirated). So now the only way to activate Windows XP is by phone after you buy the system.

I have a HP pc and oem Windows, On HP pc's WindowsXP is already activated. M$ will no longer accept CD keys for COA's as its not necessary. These cd keys can be taken right of the side of these pc's

This isnt just a problem with cd keys being taken from Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.
But people get pirated copies of WinXP and steal them off the side of pc's in stores, from thier employer, or from friends because they need a cd key.

M$ wants to stop this.

As an added I have reinstalled windows sence M$ has started this and havnt had any problems.
