confused: I have tried to remove this operating system from a laptop that was given to me. I have tried everything I know to get rid of it. Is there anyone that knows what I can do. There is no uninstall anywhere that I can find. I want to put Win 98 on it for my grandson.

Hi,
just boot from the Win98 CD into DOS mode, run FDISK, and remove the non-DOS-partitions. Then NT is gone. Create FAT32 partitions, format them, then install Win98. RJ

I tried that. It will not boot the Wim. 98 disk. If you put the NT disk in; it will boot from that Disk (the NT 4). Any other ideas???

Ok, then use a Windows 98 startup disk (floppy) to boot into DOS mode and run FDISK.

Is there a way to just wipe the drive clean of everything and just start from the beginning? The drive only will startup with NT no matter what. I can reload WINNT 4.0(WORK STATION) and that is all. The laptop does not see any other OS disk.
So now what. Is it possible that this laptop can never load anything but NT 4 WORK STATION? Susie |

Are you saying that not only will it not boot from a bootable CD except the NT CD, it will not boot with a bootable floppy disk?

That is correct... I have tried an emergenency disk for Win 98, 2000, NT and XP(that I bought). The Screen says that they are missing commands in line (ex.) 11 and so forth then it will go to A:\ I don't have a floopy A drive it only came with a cdrom.

I went to the microsoft site and they had a way to access DOS. But the DOS was not listed in the startup..so I couldn't set the laptop to start in DOS
Is there a program that would wipe the drive clean of everything. Then I could start from scratch??? Any ideas on how I can get DOS installed Susie |

I had problems removing NT from a old hard drive I had. I found a free program called Killdisk. You can put it on a floppy or cd. All you have to do is put the Killdisk in and reboot. This will erase the entire hard drive. I am no computer expert, so do a little research. I will say that it worked for me.

If you boot with a 98 CD, it SHOULD wind up at an A prompt. Type FDISK at the A prompt.
