Epson printer /XP
I recently helped a friend reload Xp in his computer-and it went off without a hitch.
We got it back to his house and hooked everything up-fine,including his wireless router (usb) and his camera dock (usb) . His copy of windows had sp1 and like I said everything worked well-till it came to his printer. When you plug it in it "locates" a device BUT will not load the driver-I have installed the drivers/software according to Epson a dozen times,it always ends up in "Failure to install" and in the Device manager it shows a USB Composite item that the driver is not present. I have downloaded the updated drivers from the web-still no good. He contacted Epson and the tech he talked to the first time said it was a windows problem-the second tech said he needed to contact his vendor - the computer needed USB printing support-thank you and call again. I searched Microsoft and couldnt find a match for anything lthat resembles this problem. The mother board is a P4 (sis) and has pretty much the standard array of items, like I said except for this one problem. He has a 2.0 usb card and several onboard 1.1 and it is recognized in all ports-any ideas???tia |

no conflicts , atleast ones that windows recognizes. I think I will remove all usb devices and retry installation.

Epson Printer USB Problem
Did you ever solve this problem? I have the same situation, and I'm wondering if disabling the 1.1 USB might enable the proper 2.0 USB installation.

I had a similar problem with one of my HP printers. HP tech support, however was great. They e-mailed me step by step directions to remove all HP entries from the registry after which I was able to re-install with no problem. If you go that route be sure to back up your registry first.
