Outlook crashes in XP repeatedly

Hi fixing a friends machine he has a problem with outlook. Each time he opens it it crashes on him. I told him do a defrag and he managed to open it this morning
here is the error message
C:\DOCUME~1\David\LOCALS~1\Temp\7bd7_appcompat.txt
It has been scanned for viri and trojans etc; nothing pops up.
Anyone any ideas please.

Have you tried deleting the "7bd7_appcompat.txt" file? If there are other user accounts set up on the PC do they have any trouble with outlook, or is it just under David's account?

You can also try to reinstall outlook. I would first export all his stuff from it then uninstall outlook and reinstall outlook.

To export go to File>Import/Export
A wizard will come up, select export to a file, then select export to .pst file, highlight the inbox and check the box at the bottom that says "include subfolders", then choose the location you want to export to, click next, and it will do its thing. If you don't change the name it will be saved as backup.pst

To import the file go to the import/export again, but this time choose import from file.

Good Luck

I think I remember this happening at a site I was at once, I think that appcompatt file *is* the error message, like you would have to open it to read the error. I am not sure, but it being in a temp folder points that way as well. I will look around a little see if anything turns up on it.
