W2K freeze on startup
I just formatted a friend's PC and am installing W2K (previously had Win98). The computer now starts up but stops on the "Windows 2000 Professional" screen (the one that has the little blue bar indicating progress). The little blue progress bar is all filled out, but the computer never goes any further.
I even removed the modem, in case there was some conflict, but no luck. If you could suggest some ideas for me to try, I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you, - Zap Branagen HP Pavilion 6630/ 500 Celeron/ 128 SDRAM/10.2 GB HD |

Did you remove all USB devices except keyboard and mouse before installing 2000?

The keyboard and mouse are PS2 on this computer. There are no USB devices.
Thank you for the idea though. Update: I should have mentioned that the compter was windows98 FAT32 before I formated it to NFTS for W2K. I reformatted the computer back to FAT32 and am proceeding to reinstall W2K. Last edited by Zap Branagen; 03-16-2005 at 07:17 PM. |

Resolution: I removed a PCI Video Card from the computer, and used the onboard video instead. This cleared up the problem, and alowed me to boot sucessfly into Win2000.
