XP Shutting down problem

Hi folks its been awhile i know, anyway This is the problem and I cant find it in the archives here.
I have a friends pc already containing windows xp home edition,Yes its Legal.. I was on line when suddenly a pop up came saying this system is shutting down. please save all work in progress and log off any unsaved changes wil be lost. This shut down was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Time remaining before shut down 52 sec etc...then something like
Restart because the (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly.
.
No virus has been found and system restore is shut off.
then after it counts down it restarts..I am a newbie at XP so I am kinda lost..thanks.

That sounds like the Blaster virus. Go here, download the Blaster removal tool and follow the directions.

I would do another virus check with http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ to double check. If the shutdown message comes up again, go to Start...Run, and type in "shutdown -a" to abort the countdown.

kevinf, doctorgonzo provided a link to a Blaster removal tool in his post. You need to read the entire thread before you add a reply. Thanks.
