Deleting Xp pro and Installing win 98

A friend received a present with XP pro installed on it. He wants to format the HD and install win 98 on it. I tried to boot with a 98 floppy after having changed the secquence in BIOS setup to A, CD, C. The system starts every time with Xp and does not boot with the floppy. Pl advise the procedure step by step. thanks

I think the only way to do it is format the hd by setting it to slave on another win98/linux pc. Then you can change back the NTFS to FAT32. After this is done, there should be no problem in intalling 98.

There is no reason why it shouldn't boot with a floppy. If you can boot with a CD, boot with a 98 CD and run fdisk to delete all partitions.

mystvearn, you cannot convert NTFS to FAT32 except with Partition Magic - and even that is a risky proposition - and it's not necessary in this case, the partitions just need to be removed..

Thank you folks for your help. Actually the floppy drive had its ribbon cable loose at the Mother board. It is now booting with the floppy.
