Video Drivers

Hi All:

When I first installed WinXP, I noticed that everything was a little fuzzy compared to my old Win98 OS, (Same Video Card).

I changed the settings from Medium (16bit) 800x600 to Highest (32bit) 800x600, and it seems to be sharper now.

Now I noticed that it says that this card is installed in a PCI slot, shouldn't it show that it's installed in a AGP slot?

Do I need to up-grade the drivers? Is something wrong?

I downloaded what I think is the correct drivers from NVIDIA's web site, but not sure if I should install them.

Below is all the information that I could find.

Display Properties/Adapter/properties/General
NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro (Microsoft Corporation)
Chip Type: GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2Pro
DAC Type: Intergrated RAMDAC
Memory Size: 64 MB
Adapter String: GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2Pro
Bios Information: Version 3.15.00.11.00
Device Type: Display adapter
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Location: PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0 ( Why don't it say AGP?)

Information on card
Manufacture: Chaintech
Product Number: AGP-RI93-64

General Features
4xAGP compliant
64MB DDR SDRAM
300Hz RAMDAC
2048x1536 maximum resolution in 32-bit color
15-pin standard VGA connector
Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT 4.0/2000/ME/XP

Driver that I downloaded from NVIDIA's web site
71.84_winxp64_english
Company: NVIDIA Corporation
File Version: 2.11.15.0
Date Created: 3/18/2005 10:59AM
Size: 19.7MB

Display Properties/Settings
Was set to: Medium (16bit) 800x600
I changed to: Highest 32bit) 800x600

Your help will be very much appreciated, and thanks ahead of time,

Bill Lane

I would install that one from nVidia or found on manufacturer's site like this one:
http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw/eng/D...te.asp?DCSNo=5

Because Microsoft has most compatible ones but not always the latest drivers available!!

Thanks macko72:

I'll try the new drivers as soon as I clear up another problem with the Recycle Bin.

Thanks again,

How about posting your motherboard model? You may need to install some chipset drivers.

Thanks glc, I installed the chipset drivers, and everything looks good.

Should I also install the video drivers that Macko72 suggested at

http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw/eng/D...te.asp?DCSNo=5

and if so they show three files there, and I don't know which one I need for the NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/GeForce2 Pro. A-MX40, A-MX20 AND A-MX42-B

Thanks again,

Bill Lane billlane27@earthlink.net

You already installed the latest Nvidia drivers for the video card, so leave them alone. If you have any video issues, reinstall DirectX 9.0c.

Hi glc:

Boy!, this getting old sucks !!!, I really don't remember installing them.

Do you happen to remember where I downloaded them from, and the file name?

If they are in my computer somewhere, I'd like to make a folder and put them there titled (The Latest Video Dr's)

I found this file that I downloaded from somewhere (44.03_win9x_international).

I usually make a folder right away with notes of what I've done, but it looks like I blew it this time.

Thanks again,

Bill Redfaced Lane

Oops - that's for 64 bit XP, wrong driver.

That's for Win9x, also not the right driver.

Hi glc:

Sorry about that double video post, it won't happen again.

Okay, I downloaded the (71.84_win2kxp_english), and installed it.

Everything looks good.

Didn't change my DirectX, it's still 9.0c

I looked the video settings over, but didn't see anything that needed to be changed.

Thanks again, really appreciate all your help !!!,

Bill Lane
