Unhappy Win 98 Cannot See Devices

I have a Win98 machine that was infected with a worm. I reformatted and reloaded my software, reintalling Win98. Now the PC cannot access my printer (on LPT 1), my CD Drive (which is on a SCSI ribbon and recognized when I bootup), nor my tape backup (an IDE drive). I only have basic software loaded, nothing fancy or esoteric. All of these worked fine before the worm. I have uninstalled and re-installed Windows a number of times and tried other things without any success.

At this point, I am dumfounded and have no idea what to do or try next. I don't think the equipment is bad; however, cannot say for certain since I am unable to try it on another machine.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated ...

Thanks in advance ...

Did you install the chipset drivers for the motherboard?

I have a backup tape for the pre-reformatted drive. Would the motherboard drivers be in the root directory?

No, they would be on the CD that came with the motherboard, or you will have to download them. Got a motherboard model for us?

The SCSI devices can't be accessed till you install the drivers for the SCSI controller, and the tape drive is not going to work till you reinstall your backup software.

Or download and use Belarc Advisor program. It is good at telling you what you have. As GLC says , the M/B specs will help, or the chipset identification will do will enough to get you pointed in the right direction.
