Why has my XP machine become so unstable?
I had a nice XP Home machine (specs in sig) running SP1. I upgraded to SP2 a few months ago. Not sure if it was exactly since the upgrade this started happening but my system has recently become very unstable. Every time I play various games that it used to run with no problem, it often either freezes up completely, crashes to the desktop (sometimes with one of those error report boxes) or just reboots without saying anything. I tested all of my games on my other XP machine (which is a lot slower) and they work fine. I am mystified as to what could be causing my computer to suddenly become so unstable. Any ideas?
TIA, JTH

What are the error messages saying when you receive them? Have you scanned for virri, spyware/malware, sfc /scannow? Have you added or changed anything in the system lately?

Nothing changed and have run full scans. There usually isn't any specific error. When I do get a box it's something like "Windows has encountered an error and this program has to close. We are sorry for the incovenience".

I usually go to Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer and click on Application (if it's a program or the Security, and System)to see if there are any errors or warnings. If there are any I right click on it and choose properties to see the errors or warnings property dialog box. This will give you some idea as to what's causing the errors and you can go to MS website to find a solution. IMO this is a good way to learn what these errors we receive from XP are all about. This is just my 2 cents, maybe someone else has a better idea.

Try clocking the CPU back to it's normal speed. The OC may be stressing some components.
