How can I Otptimize Program Files in WinXP

In Win98SE, I could consolidate my program files into a master file. I would create a new folder...named "Security"
(for example) and move Norton, McAfee, BlackIce....etc into this folder....so that I would not have a hundreds of "Program Files".

I tried this in WinXP....get a message that the software may not work....and YES....it will not work.

¿Is there a way to do this in XP?

In advance, I thank you for your help.

You can do this with the start menu shortcuts, not with the actual programs themselves or they WILL NOT work.

You cannot consolidate your program files after the fact. If you wanted to organize the program files, then you should be doing it during the installation. Instead of letting the program decide where it wants to install itself, you should consider providing it a proper location.
FF is right, the choices you have are to rearrange the shortcuts, or to uninstall the program and reinstall it into a new directory of your choice.

Personally, I never install non windows based programs to Program files, but to a separate partition under a directory that describes the category. For example - Mozilla would go on D:\Internet\Mozilla ; this helps reduce the clutter on the system partition (the assumption is that the C drive holds your Windows based files).
