XP user program access
OK, this should be simple enough but I can't get it working.
I'm using Microsoft XP Home with multiple user accounts. My son has a Sony Mini Disk player which comes with proprietry software for changing audio format to suit the player and downloading/uploading to/from the Mini Disk player. I have an admin account, he doesn't. In order to install the software I have to use admin priviledges that's fine. But he can't seem to use the software without admin priviledges, it won't read/write etc. I have installed it both through my user account and through his account with my admin password to install the software either way it is asking for admin password just to rip and copy audio files to his device. I know how to change user permissions to execute individual software applications in Linux Sytems but I can't seem to find a simple solution in XP Home. I'm sure there's a link to another thread somewhere but I can't find what I am looking for. I don't want to give him admin access because he's 16 and he's got a habit of screwing things up...just like me at 16 , and it would be nice not to have to sign in as admin every other night to give him access to the software. The program shows up under all user accounts so anyone can open the program but it won't edit or upload/download without admin. It's not a directory problem. Any tips? Last edited by kiwipcman; 03-22-2005 at 02:15 AM. |

Boot into safe mode and log in as administrator. Browse for the executable file and when you right click and go to properties, you should have a Security tab, where you can modify the rights and permissions.
