Custom Brand your PC

Hi All:

Sometime back there was a post that gave instructions on how to Custom Brand your PC for Win98.

It stated the following ....

"This allows you to place any picture and text so that it will be displayed in the system control panel; without having to mess with the registry".

It worked just fine for me with Win98.

My question is, can we do this in WinXP also, and if so, could someone post the instructions.

Thanks ahead of time,

Bill Lane

Not sure what's wrong. I resized the graphic to the stated size in the article and saved it as OEMLOGO.BMP in the same folder as the .ini but it doesn't show. The system info worked brill though :-)

Hi Big Tone & Stryker:

Here's what worked for me in (WinXP).

1. In Windows/System32, rename OEMINFO to OEMINFO old.

2. Use NotePad to make the new OEMINFO, don't name it OEMINFO.INI , just OEMINFO like the old one, and put it in Windows/System32 also.

3. I made my Logo the same size as the Windows logo 107 x 96 pixels, and name it OEMLOGO, and put this BMP also in Windows/System32.

Here's what mine looks like ...

Hope this helps,

Bill Lane

Hi kevinf:

I don't know about the other people, but I use a combination of Windows Paint and Adobe Paint Shop.

In Paint just draw a boder around your object and grab a conor or side and drag it to the size you want.

In Paint Shop or other programs you should read the help files.

Hope this helps,

Bill Lane

Hi Bill, I read through your post and realised what I was doing wrong. I had named the file OEMLOGO.BMP so I just changed the name to OEMLOGO without the file extension and bingo!!!!

As for resizing the graphic I used Adobe Photoshop CS edition, just choose resize image and enter the size you want it in pixels.

Hope this can help someone else!

Thanks for the help Guys!

The file extensions are probably hidden on your system. In effect, you were naming the file OEMLOGO.BMP.BMP, which is of course why it didn't work.

On a similar subjet, is it possible to display a logo over the boot screens like most of the "branded" systems have?

I know you can replace the boot screen image but the only way I've ever seen is with a registry hack. I've never tried it as I tend to not fiddle with regedit unless absolutely neccessarry (you can call me a sissy if you want ). I've only heard of a way with Win XP as well, so other OSs may be different. Google around, you should find something if you would like to try.
