problems moving XP HD

I moved an old hard drive with an existing XP (home) instalation onto different hardware, and when it is set up to boot it gives a BSOD/restarts.. (inc safe mode)

i tried doing a repair install, however it is from a laptop and thus (being premade) has a recover disk rather than a straight M$ XP disc.. ie no repair option..
i had an XP Pro CD which i thought might work anyway, so i put it in and selected repair.. it then prompted me to input the administrator password, which i am sure was blank (and confirmed so by chntpw) .. however it didn't agree with me..(?!?)

the hard drive and other hardware is working alright thou, i am able to access it fine using Knoppix..

any ideas other than reinstall?

If you can get a hold of an XP Home disk, the repair install should work fine.

BTW... when it asked for an adminstrator password... did you select the first repair option? If so, that IS NOT what you wanna do.. .you want to select install on that screen, THEN you will get a screen offering a repair installation.

cheers..
i tried selecting install and then that it was supposed to give me repair, but it never came up with repair.. presumably as moving to pro would be an upgrade/ 'different' OS.. guess i'll have to try and get hold of an XP home disc unless anyone knows of any other way..?

FYI it has left me with the very nasty situation of having XP sp0 over the top of sp2 like i have 'security centre' but u click it up comes up weird and doesn't do anything... ..is updating it going to fix all or lead to total meltdown??
