XP Pro backup failure

I recently had a failure of XP. The OS wouldn't load and I was unsuccessful in getting the repair function to work. I ended up reinstalling XP from scratch. Lost the "My Doc" but nothing else. Just had to reinstall some programs.

I'm trying to be better about backing up my files. I have a 250GB external drive that I was going to back up to.

When I ran XP backup, I got the error listed below. Any thoughts would be welcome. Based on the error, it looks like I'm not logged in as the Admin. Since I'm the only user of my computer and I'm the admin, I'm not sure where to go from here.

Thanks.

Try to explain your procedure prior to error message. Please don't understand me wrongly but maybe there is mistake.
Did you use back up wizard or advanced option, where did you put backup.bcf, what are you backing up(all files or some OS or to you important files)!!!

Process

Macko72, here's what I did:

Launched the Win XP "Backup or Restore Wizard"
Selected "Back up files and settings"
Selected "All information on this computer"
The place I pick for a backup was an external firewire drive (plenty of space)
The name of the file was "Backup"
Then "Finish"

Try the other way backup files on desktop then move backup to external drive manualy, and see what happens.
If error ocures again you will probably have to use some tird party backup software!!!

Thanks for the reply. I tried to run the backup again last night and got a different error. There were a lot of files listed, I've included a few below.

It seems to me like there's a problem with the directory, not the backup program. Is there a way to check the disK for problems like this?

Warning: Unable to open "C:\Backup\Photography\07_27_04\P7030037.JPG" - skipped.
Reason: The system cannot find the file specified.

Could not access portions of directory C:\Backup\Photography\07_27_04.
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator.

I also got the same error as the first time.

Well you can try uninstall and backup and then insall it again and see is anything changing!!!
If not you'll definitly have to use some tird party backup software ( norton ghost, trueimage(posted by exe) or some other).
