help, PLEASE!!!!!

I have Windows XP Home. Usually when I'm done with my computer, it goes into power saving mode, however, today it just kept staying on. So I rebooted it, and, NOW all I get is a black screen! The fans are running, but there are no beeps, etc. I switched the power off and all I get is still a black screen with no beeps, etc. My hardrive light is constantly on and I tried to reset it by pushing the reset button, now all it does is constantly reset, plus my monitor gives me "No signal" What can I do? Please help!!!

Sounds like a hard drive failure. My son's comp just failed last week the same way. If you have another machine available, remove your hard drive from the problem machine and install it as a slave in the other machine. IF it gets recognized, run the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic software to test it. You can download the diagnostics from any of their sites.

You may be able to retrieve your personal data while in the other machine. If the drive isn't recognized or fails the tests immediately, you may be out of luck with data recovery. Sad to say.

If you aren't getting anything at all, no beeps, no POST, no "Non-system disk error", it could be a motherboard failure. It's happened to me in the way you have described.

If you bought it and assembled it yourself, probably 3 years. If it's part of a prebuilt machine (like a Dell), the warranty time is determined by the original machine warranty.

I took it in to a pc repair shop. I'll let you know what they say...whether it's the motherboard, hd, or whatever....
