McAfee Stinger + Winxp= trouble for me
installed att dialup isp--immediately became infected with a worm>installed Stinger and ran it>removed worm (sdbot) but then...computer had no sound and would not shutdown.
got so disgusted with xp---did a complete OS reinstall, using win 98se!--which is working fine ![]() what is the problem with Stinger? |

Stinger is a stand-alone utility used to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system. Stinger utilizes next generation scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.
Well I think that's problem with stinger!!!

i have read on these forums as well as elsewhere on the net that once you have sdbot you just as well format and reinstall.
this being the case i don't think it is something XP should be punished for. Singer is great but can't work miracles with a real demon like this one that does so much damage before you try to remove it. alan |
