You'll have to run antivirus and antispayware programs that you may have and probably in safe mode!!!

seagull,
Try starting Outlook in safe mode by using the command line. Go to START>RUN and type the following: outlook /safe -LW |

Do a search on your PC for outlook.exe.
Once you find it, you can then go to START>RUN and type in the path to the executable. For example: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\Outlook.exe" /safe -LW |

The only other thing I can suggest is reinstalling Outlook Express. If you decide to go this route, make sure you back up your mail files before you proceed - just in case they are removed/overwritten during the reinstall process.

Tried that. When I do the setup on the new Outlook express it starts and at 3 % it stops and tells me that some of the files are in use and to reboot and try again. Did that about 5 times. When I do A CTRL-ALT-DELET to look at the log I can not see msimn trying to load at start.

Here's what you may have to do. Rave has shown you where your .dbx files are - and there will be a separate set for each identity. Make folders somewhere, and move the contents of each identity into its own folder ONE IDENTITY at a time. Try opening OE. If it opens, determine which identity has empty folders, then import the mail back in to that identity. Use the "import from store folder" function in the import wizard. The import process will usually clear up database corruption.

If you don't care about the mail, just delete everything in the Outlook Express folder in each identity as previously mentioned. That should take care of it. A new set of empty folders (.dbx files) should recreate when you open each identity, and the upgrade to OE6 will pick up all the identities and accounts.
