Import Settings From Old HD

I have put a new HD in my puter, made it the c drive and the old one is now f. All files are still on old drive (f) Same OS, same everything, just new, bigger main HD.

OS is XP Home with sp2 and Office Xp Pro. I am not able to import my "favorites" or my "address book" from the old HD. The Import "feature" neglects the fact that you just might be "importing" settings from the same program as you are using now.

I have even "dragged" the fav. folder to my new identity on the new drive and opening the fav folder in "my computer" shows all of my old "bookmarks" yet when I'm in IE and click favs it shows the "factory settings" if ya get my drift.

I've been thru this before, and resolved the problems, but can't remember how I did it....

Thanks,
DD

Did you try copy Favorite from F: then open C: then click docum and settings, then click your name, then paste and replace Favorite folder already in there. This should work!!!

I just did the same thing (imported Favorites, address book, email messages, documents, etc.) to a new computer running about the same stuff (XP Pro/SP2, Office 2000 Pro). I was importing from a backup CD but the process is the same importing from a second harddrive.

In IE, in the Import/Export wizard, choose "Import from a file or address," then use the Browse button to navigate to the Favorites folder on the old harddrive (or backup CD, wherever the old Favorites folder is). Once you've pointed it at the right folder, finish stepping through the wizard.

I did the same for the address book, using OE's Import>Messages, telling it to import from a store folder and then pointing at the address book file on the CD.

I've never bothered with the Import/Export method with IE. I just copy/paste the Favorites and other files as Macko suggested.

Temporarily reinstall the old drive as the master and make a copy of the my fav's folder in my documents on the old drive, reinstall the new hard drive and then either import the folder from my documents or cut and paste it to the new my fav's folder on the new drive.
Do the same with the address book but use the import/export option and just export it to the my fav's folder you made in my documents.
