Works fine on my end. try clearing your temporary internet files, cookies, and try again. Or maybe even try rebooting your system, that often works in these situations.

I had the same problem once with a customer machine after an SP2 upgrade. A repair/install didn't fix it and all the ideas advanced here at PC Mech didn't work either. Ended up reformatting and starting over! I know that's not what you wanted to hear. Seems like Hal had a similar problem that had to do with a Disabled Service. Check this thread for his issue.

The screen you linked is not an error screen, everyone gets that screen. Does it go any farther? Any pics of that? Disabled service sounds like a good place to start looking.

Keep an eye open for a bar appearing under your address bar telling you that an ActiveX object has been blocked. You click on it, and allow the install.

I had a similar problem where it would hang at that screen forever. You should be able to check your WindowsUpdate log file to see if you are getting an error code. In my log file I had an Error 0x800401F3. I found a fix buried somewhere in the Windows Update support site that you have to reload some .dll files. Once I did this, I was able to get in and update my computer.

I'll try to find the article again and repost.

Well, I couldn't find the exact article, but this fix worked for me. I found this information here .

Go to Start/Run and type in these items:

REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuapi.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuaueng.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\atl.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wucltui.dll
REGSVR32 C:\WINDOWS\system32\wups.dll

This re-registers all the windows update dll's. Once you re-register the dll's you shouldn't have to do this again.
