Unhappy Missing Pictures

Hi everybody,
I discovered this forum and I registered today. I have a question about how to put pictures back on a computer from a CD. I will explain. In January my computer had a virus. In February and in March my computer had spyware. I got rid of both of them. After doing this, I decided to format my drive and reinstall Windows. Before doing this, however, I backed up all my important things to CD. I had saved many web pictures to the My Pictures folder. I put them on CD. As I saved the pictures I had noticed that if I saved a picture, the same picture would be in two places on my computer. It would be in the My Pictures folder and it would also be in the list of available desktop backgrounds. This made me very happy because I discoverd a picture of my favorite singer in the list of Microsoft's pictures. I put the picture CD-Rs in the CD drive and the Scanner and Camera Wizard appeared and presented me with 3 choices one of which was highlighted. It was "Copy these pictures to this computer." This is the one I chose. However, the pictures are only in the My Pictures folder. What did I do wrong? I wanted them to be in both the My Pictures folder and the list of available desktop backgrounds.

Hi Jeannie, and welcome to PC Mech!

It should just be a matter of copying the pictures into the C:/windows folder (C being you drive where windows is installed). This is assuming the images are the right format to be detected which they probably are if they were appearing before.

Any image of the right formats in this folder will show up in your desktop background selection.

Let us know how it goes and if you need a hand any further.
Hope this helps,
Stryker

I know you say that you saved the pictures to CD after clearing out a virus and some spyware but I think it would be a little prudent to scan the CD for viruses before putting the pictures back on your clean machine, it is just possible for something to be laying dormant in your saved pictures just waiting for the correct circumstances to become virulent again.
