Someone sent me an email with a photo embedded in a word file. I wanted to save it to the comp and it looked like the only way was to cut then paste..So I cut and then pasted to the desktop. Said the only way to do this I think was to save a copy to have it added to the active desktop. Now the 'active' part didn't really register in my head at that point and I figure must mean something, because after it showed up everything on my desktop is highlighted in dark blue, like when you click once on something to see the name, except the blue is darker and it won't go away..and the computer won't stop humming like it's working hard. How do I get this back to normal?
Also when I updated Windows Media Player awhile back, I don't know if this is what caused it but it seemed it happened after I did that..that whenever I right click on any file it takes several seconds for the little menu to come up. Gets annoying. Last edited by Shady12; 04-09-2005 at 01:34 PM. |

If you click on the file from the e-mail, it should open MS Word and display the word file. And when you want to save it to the computer; click on file/save as and give it a new name and location to save it to.

Sorry I'm not talking about saving the word file..but the picture EMBEDDED in the word file. The picture isn't attached to the email, it's embedded in the word file(shows up in the word file). The only way to save it from the menu was to cut and paste, and I pasted it to the desktop which made the desktop weird as I described.

Active Desktop/Embedded Photo
Here are the guidelines of Active Desktop first of all:
Microsoft Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 users 1. Open the Control Panel. 2. Open Display Properties. 3. Click the Web tab in the Display Properties window. If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check the checkbox for "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" and select the home page you wish to use as the active desktop. If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure that "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" is unchecked. Microsoft Windows XP users 1. Open the Control Panel. 2. Open Display Properties. 3. Click the Desktop tab. 4. Click the Customize Desktop button. 5. Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window. If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check "My Current Home Page". Add your current home page into your desktop or click New to add another web page and/or other Active Desktop features. To update the content, click the Synchronize button. If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked. If you can not save the email to view the embedded picture then do this: Open the email you want to save. Press print screen on your keyboard to capture the email with picture. The print screen function places the information on the Clip Board. Now open Microsoft Paint through your accessories menu. Press control v to paste the screenshot within paint and you can save the entire email/photo as a .bmp/jpeg, etc. Remember, printscreen captures exactly what you see on the screen so resizing may be needed by corner dragging of the displayed screen. Good Luck |
