hi there,
While working on WinXP, a lot of processes seem to be running in the background without our notice. They cannot be noted unless & until the task manager is opened to find out the list of processes. I'm really fed up with certain unnecesary (or may be unrelated) processes that run on my PC. I don't understand what the hell do processes like SVCHOST.exe, LASS.exe, ALG.exe do in my system. Here's a screenshot of my desktop showing the various processes running in my system: http://www.coolphotohost.com/uploads/44eb097ceb.jpg Now, anyone pls tell me the necc. and the unneccs. processes running there. what should I do to remove the unecc. processes from my system permanently. pls, don't tell to click the "End Process", as it would only temporarily remove the process, but what I want is a permanent removal from the system itself. Try using answersthatwork to find out what processes are necessary or not. You can find it at www.answersthatwork.com good helpful site. You can also download The Ultimate TroubleShooter from same site, you'll find it on the left of the home page.

plomon, please don't post duplicate threads. This leads to confusion and repeated suggestions. Second, please don't post huge images like that. Just paste the link. There are users here that are on dialup and an image that large takes a while to download. Thanks

If you want to know what services/processes do what, go here
http://www.blackviper.com/ This is really a very good site that I use a lot. I intend to look at the other sites posted for you, because there are always good tips here. I have used The Ultimate TroubleShooter that codered6651 mentioned. It gives you 10 trial trys before you have to buy it. At Black Viper There is a .PDF that has the default settings for home and pro, it has a SAFE , a internet gateway, a gaming, and a super tweak configuration. And if you do not want to take the time to learn just what they all do and what dependencies they have et,,, you can just dwn load the patch that will set everything for you. I suggest that you take the time to learn what they do. What I found works well with the site is "WinTasks". Its kind of like the trouble shooter. http://www.liutilities.com/ If you do a search at google on lsass, it will take you to wintask library and tell you that lsass deals with local security and login policies,,,, as it will with the other services, its just figuring out which ones you can live without. If you have SP1, there are some pretty good vulnerabilities running in the services. Hopee this helps and sorry for being so long. |

28 processes would be a joy to me as I consistently run in the 40's...But, my speed is great and I don't seem to have any other problems...

Black Viper's site is down for me too. His suggestions are more oriented to tweaking the Services in XP as opposed to Processes. You may find that many of these are programs that are set to start when your computer starts and may be unnecessary. Take a look at the Start Up items in Task Manager and see which programs are listed. Here's the site I use to validate whether a program is necessary, optional or definitely not needed.
