XP home--need a password on my comp

i need to put passwords on my computers -- originally i figured i'd just make one account and no password so i did. now people are starting to use them without asking so i need to set up a password (dont want a BIOS password.). I think im just going to keep the same one user (me) but i need a way to easily log out so that my programs keep running (mainly just AIM) but so that the PW is needed to get back on. this way the computer can stil run and my programs not be disrupted.

It will lock your computer (all of your programs will stay running, but nobody will be able to get to them without a password).
