MsPMSPSv.exe service
Helper Service needed installed by Windows Media Player 7, is what that is. My question is how do I keep i shut off?
Its not in the start up at msconfig. Its not in the Services in Administrative Tools. I thought maybe it was in the options (auto update) in media player, but I have that shut off already. I try to keep as few services running as possible. And this one is not needed. Thanks for any help B |

Microsoft’s WMDM PMSP Service, aka Windows Media Device Manager Pre-Message Security Protocol Service. This services enables Windows Media Player to support the SDMI protocol (Secure Digital Music Initiative) when copying CDs or packaging copyrighted downloaded music to SDMI compliant music players and storage devices.
Recommendation : This process takes at least 1.5Mb of memory, yet at the time of writing, 25-Mar-2005, most users do not use any of the SDMI features of Windows Media Player. Therefore, if you are such a user, we advise that you disable this process on the Startups tab of The Ultimate Troubleshooter under Windows 9x/ME, or set the Startup Mode of this service to Manual on the Services tab of The Ultimate Troubleshooter in Windows 2000/XP/2003. You can always re-enable it if you start needing to use some of the SDMI features of Windows Media Player. http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...tasklist_m.htm

thanks
Thanks for the advice to shut it off. That is what I am trying to find out how to do.
Problem is that I do not use the UTS. There has to be a way to disable it within the OS? no? I do use WinTasks and maybe it will let me do the same as UTS. But, I would still like to find a way without outside software. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks again B |

It's listed in Computer Management/Services in W2000. The registry entries are at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\WMDM PMSP Service Change the "Start" parameter to 4 to disable it. You may want to disable the entry following (Portable Media Serial Number Service) also: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\WmdmPmSN |
