To all out there I am currently experiencing an abnormal amount of use of MS Explorer. When bringing up the Task Manager and checking processes it normlly reads 80+% and sometimes as much as 95%.
I believe I have Virus free machines and run regular checks via FIX-IT and System Suite Applications. This is occuring on both my PCS connected via Wireless and running XP Pro and Home editions. The only way to reslove this issue is to stop Explorer from running and then start it again from within the Task manager. One thing that may be causing it is an application called Bearshare which is installed on one of the computers but the query is that the fault appears to be on both. Does anyone recognise this problem and how do I solve it Cheers Jim

Bearshare is a file sharing program which, surprise(!), looks for files on your computer to share with other computers. Since it's on a network where I guess you have file sharing enabled it's making a nuisance of itself.
In your case I'd get rid of it but you can also disable file sharing or limit Bearshare to just the music or picture folders on that one computer. edit: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...ight=bearshare

You can't disable filesharing in Bearshare, it only pretends to do so. The link below shows how it does this. I just went through this argument with my sister-in-law who thinks it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Along with sharing files without your knowledge, it is a spyware bundler as Pam's link says.

Thanks Pam but I keep Spyware up to date on a regular basis - still problem exists although just run adaware and will monitor over next few day
Rightcoast I am aware that you cannot disable file sharing in BS what I meant was file sharing between pcs. My conclusion is that is is something to do with the "my downloads" file as this is the onlly common item between the two machines. What I will try is to transfer the files from the internet pc to a separate unrelated file and then access that file from the other pc. It is almost as if something is contained in that file. |
