Windows 2000 boot problem

I was having problems with the Windows repaetedly giving error messages. I was attempting to update the BIOS of a motherboard. When I had done so restarted Windows 2000, now it won't load pass the boot-up screen.

Would I need to re-install windows? Or is there something else I can do?

I already used BIOS defaults. Do you know the first picture with the Windows logo and the status bar at the bottom? Its that one. The bar will go toward a full bar and just stop. I've also tried resetting CMOS as well but to no avail.

By default Windoze hides what is going on behind that boot screen. That is what I like about Linux.......all the information a guy (or Gal) could want!
To see what is going on behind the splash screen use a text editor (notepad is fine) to edit the boot.ini (under C:\) file. Don't forget to enable the seeing of system and hidden files!
You'll see a line that looks something like this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect

Add a space and /SOS to the end of the line so it looks like this:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect /SOS

Now when you boot the next time, you can see where it is hanging!

Also, have you tried to boot into safe mode? What were the results of that?

Before you flashed the BIOS, did you make any changes to the hardware?

Press F8 right before windows loading takes over at startup, and go into safe mode and let us know if that works, also you can try boot logging from that same alternate boot options menu and it will than show you what Loco is mentioning that he would like you to be able to see on the screen at startup..
Also I would cruise through the BIOS and check all settings to be sure they are how I wanted them to be, put any settings back to how you may have had them custom set when you first built that box and loaded windows..

Go ahead and boot from the Win2K disk and go in just like your going to do a clean Install, and it will let U do a repair install after it first searches the harddrive for previous installs of windows, you choose yes and it will go ahead and do a repair install and you won't loose any of your data or programs, but you'll just have to do all windows updates again.
