Question Unable to install Windows XP

My e-machines computer crashed due to some recent virus attacks and ever since I was not able to install Windows XP Either from the restore disks nor from a Windows XP original Disk....

The Setup Copys the files into the computer but when it tries to load Windows it Hangs. Even when installing from the 6 Boot disks When the setup tries to load windows for further installations it Hangs. I also tried to install Windows 98 and then Upgrade it to Windows XP but even then Windows 98 works fine but Windows XP Fails.

This computer came prebuilt with windows XP Home and I have no idea what to do. I tried checking the Microsoft website and online forums but I couldn't see a solution to my problem.

If someone could help me it will be great.

Thank you.

Make sure that other than the monitor, keyboard and mouse you have nothing else plugged into the machine during the install, also at this point considering what you have attempted so far it might be worth your while doing a zero fill of the hard drive using the harddrive manufacturers diagnostic utility.

could be a hang over from a previous install or recovery gone bad if you havent reformated the drive before the new install,,mbr issue.?Try formatting the drive in another pc.

And I would like to add just that maybe checking of memory will also be helpful
