SP2 slipstream stopped working

The first try at slipstream of SP2 onto XPhome SP1 worked fine (did not yet try for a boot CD). Then the 2 folders were wiped, to do again but change to newest deploy.cab. At the ...update.exe... command it stops at an error: Program error, update.exe has generated errors and will be closed by ...". Retries, reboots, using either Start>run ... or DOS cmd window, did not fix. How to fix?

Are you trying to slipstream onto an XP disk from a PC manufacturer? (i.e. one that came with a Dell). In that case, you cannot slipstream SP2 onto the disk.

Ah, a good question I should have covered--This is an OEM full CD (not an upgrade) I bought with a barebones system some time ago. It's volume label is XRMHOEM_EN.

Mikezel-- I slipstreamed SP2 onto a Dell XP Home sp1 CD with no problems. I used Autostreamer. Works great. BTW, the Dell CD came with my Dimension 4600.

Corky, that's because your Dell CD is not a restore disk, it's a generic XP CD that's keyed to a Dell bios. Restore CD's can't be slipstreamed because they have custom drivers.

glc-- Yes, I know. I didn't know Dell had gone to restore disks. A friend of mine got a Dim 2400 less than a year ago and got the Dell OS CD. Oh well, another reason I'm glad I weaned myself off Dell and built this one.
