I use Windows 95 here at work. I used to be a WordPerfect user, but now my company standard for word processing is MS Word 97. I have several documents I created in Word 97, using Univers as my standard font. When I started converting documents to PDF format, I had problems with documents not appearing as they should, & I was told it was because of the font I was using, which is apparently a carryover from WordPerfect & isn't a TrueType font. It was suggested that I change my default font in Word to Arial & I'd get better results when converting my files to PDF.
The problem is this: I opened each Word file individually & changed my fonts throughout from Univers to Arial, but sometimes when I open a file I'm still finding Univers is applied to a paragraph here & there. I've checked all settings in Word & can't find anywhere that I can globally change a font - is there any place within Windows that would allow me to tell my computer "anywhere you find the font Univers - change it to Arial"? I've used Univers in Word, Excel, & possibly other applications. Please advise if anyone has any idea how to globally change my font within my system. Thanks, Patti |

First, note that when a doc or pdf uses a font, that particular font must be installed on that particular pc in order for it to properly view or print the doc.
To do the font replace: Edit, Find, Replace Tab, More Button, Format Button, Font Select the Font and/or the style and/or the size OK Then Select in the "Replace With" field and do the same thing to select the replacement font. |

I assume you're talking about how to change to font within Word? I've already done that, exactly as you suggested. I've also deleted the font from my computer, then gone through Tools, Options, Compatibility, & told Word to replace the "missing" font with Arial.
This doesn't work as a permanent solution. Somehow the font is still in some of my documents. I don't understand how or why, since I did the above for each and every file individually, but it is. I'd like to know if there's any way to change the Windows Registry to tell my computer, no matter what application I'm using, to replace the Univers font with Arial. If I could change it on my system, I wouldn't have to worry about changing it in my individual applications. Thanks, Patti |

How did you change the font in your docs? Edit/Select All, then select font in drop-down box?

Rambler asked:

For some reason a "select all" doesn't select what's in the header/footer (at least for me!) After doing the Edit/Select All, I also did a "find" for any Univers font codes, just to be sure. If I found any, I replaced them with Arial. |
