How do you boot in 98 from a non-windows disk?
I'm trying to get my 98 SE to boot from a floppy, but the computer only says how to boot from a windows disk. The program I want to boot is http://www.menuetos.org/.

Not sure I fully understand your question but here's some thoughts. First step is to go to the bios on boot up and assure that the boot order has the floppy drive set before the hard drive. Then if you want to boot to a 98se floppy (boot disk), insert it in the floppy drive and start the system. If you want to boot to the program you linked (the link doesn't work, btw), just make sure the disk you make is a bootable floppy and start the computer with that disk in the floppy drive. Hope that helps.

What I can't do is the first part. The help files don't say how to make it boot from a disk.
The link works for me. |

I had to copy and paste to get the linke to work.
Did you read the section under documents called "First Boot?"

i just tried this.. unfortunately i dont have wired lan and my HDD is NTFS (which it obviously can't access) so there wasn't that much i could do with it.. but the connect 4 was nice lol.. its rather buggy thou.
what operating system do u have? if it is windows XP i just downloaded and ran the .exe (eg m078.exe) whilst there was a blank floppy in the drive, pressed yes and it wrote the floppy.. then left the floppy in, restarted and it asked me a couple of Q's and bingo.. if your computer isnt set up to boot from floppy (first) then go into the bios (by pressing something, ususally delete [do it repeatedly] after turning on your computer) then look for something like 'boot sequence' in one of the sub-menus, and u want to set it to boot from floppy (or try to boot from floppy before it tries the hard drive) then save and exit.. (make sure the right floppy is in the drive) and it will restart and begin booting from your floppy disk hope that helped.if u are using win9x it may be a little more complex.. but i wont go into that unless you are? [edit: all it said under 'first boot' was : "Your BIOS must be set up to boot from floppy BEFORE Hard drive. Refer to your BIOS's information on how to do this." which i guess was where the problem was] |
