Hanging on system shut down

Hi,
I have an IBM (Win XP, 256 RAM, 1000 clock speed) computer that hangs up on system shut down with "Trd ww:C:|WINDOWS\system32/DL..." message. This brings up a "Not responding" window and I have to End Program before the computer will shut down. Any ideas about how to make this go away? Thanks in advance!

I recently had one of my computers taking an age to shutdown.
I put the Win XP disc in the drive, stopped it when it autoran, then clicked
Start "Run", and typed exactly as written below.
sfc /scannow
There is a space between the letter c and the forward slash.
The computer will scan your files for corrupt Windows files and replace them.
It fixed mine.

Hope this helps

Jack
